Why do people call me a racist when I ask questions critical of the nation of Israel?

If I seek the abolition of hypocrisy and use the same standard to judge the actions of Israel that I use to judge the actions of Saddam Hussein or Osama bin Laden or our own government how is that racist?

Aren't the people who call me a racist for not joining them in offering unconditional support to the nation of Israel because of some belief that they are god's chosen people the real racists?

Israeli or Jewish is not a race, so you are not being racist. Jewish is a religion. Israeli is a nationality. What they are accusing you of is anti-Semitism, which is also a misnomer.

People from Saudi Arabia and Lebanon (Muslims) are also Semites. They all come from the same people, so to be anti-Semetic, you have to be against all people of Arabic/ Eastern Mediterranean origin, not just Jews. Being against Jews is anti-Jewish.

Your political view on the nation of Israel is correct in that you accept its right to exist (regardless of its formation), and that it should adhere to the same standards that every other nation is held to (which it doesn't). The US invaded Iraq for violating 14 UN Security Council Resolutions, while Israel had violated 21 up until that same time and recieved $25 billion/ year in US aid (which it used to violate those Resolutions).

Israel is held out as a lone democracy in the Middle East, which is why we must support it, unconditionally, yet it is not a democracy as we know it. Israel practices Jim Crow segregationist policy towards the people whom it displaced. Palestine is the largest concentration camp the world has ever seen. Its army protects settlers on captured lands that Israel acknowledges it doesn't own.

Israel has never had a moral right to exist; it was formed from the stolen lands of the Palestinians. Even the Bible contradicts the sentiment that Israel is 'a land with no people for a people with no land'. The Bible recounts the taking of Israel, by force, from the people who lived there, therefore, any Biblical claim is nullified under today's social mores. They took it by force in millenia past and lost it by force.

Israel is the single greatest threat to the security of the United States. Our support for Israel is the nexus of the hatred of us by Islamic extremists. And who could wonder why?

A lot of people think that Israel is perfect and can do no wrong. They are blind to the dreadful things Israel has done to the Palestinians over the years. They're not interested in learning anything about why there's such conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians. They choose to remain in their own ignorance. You Know, I answered both of those questions. And in reading some of the remarks, I had the same thought. I wondered the same thing. You weren't being racist at all , at least not that I could tell, yet several ( I believe simply because you mentioned Israel) accused you of being racist. Very curious. I believe it is just such a touchy subject many jump to that conclusion even when it isn't warranted.

The answer is ignorance... lack of education.

I always get a kick out of some responses I get to editorials or blogs on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. I posted one on my 360 and had to delete a nasty comment about me being a racist.

I get a kick out of it because the dummies don't realize I am Jewish ethnically (it is considered an ethnicity, as well as, a religion) and just spent 5 months in Israel. My grandmother was a Holocaust survivor. Ppl should not assume that just because you are one thing or the other that you don't see truth. I happen to not agree with what Israel is doing right now...
