Why not? You don't have to be a slave to your mobile phone. You don't HAVE to answer it every time it rings. There's no need to feel guilty about wanting your privacy. Also if you don't want certain people harassing you on the phone you can always block their number with call screening.

I think it's better NOT to switch off just to avoid someone in particular though, because then you will feel that you are missing other calls etc. and then you'll feel bad about that. If you just put them on call screening or put the phone on silent, then you can just see who is calling before you choose to answer.

Not a great idea. Use existing balance available in your SIM. Change your SIM . BSNL prepaid SIM costs just Rs 112 only.
