First option is to do a system restore. If that does not work, next option would be to check the soundcard in dxdiag. If details are not there, reinstall its driver.

The first thing what you do is, try using a headphone or connect an external speakers. If you are able to hear audio from the headphone or the external speaker, then the problem is with the internal speakers, and the drivers is OK.

Incase, you are unable to get the audio from the external speakers or the headphones too, then the problem is with the audio drivers. To troubleshoot this problem, perform the following steps dude:

=== Restart Windows Audio Service ===

For Windows XP OS:

1. Click Start and select Run. The Run box will open.
2. Type SERVICES.MSC and press Enter key. Services windows will pop up.
3. In the Services window, search for "Windows Audio Service".
4. Double-click "Windows Audio Service" to open Properties Window.
5. Ensure that the Windows Audio Service is "Started" and the Startup type is set to "Automatic".
6. Click Apply and OK to close the Services Window.

Now, try playing an audio file.

If the problem persists, the best option would be to perform System Restore. This will restore your notebook settings to previous date. Visit the following web site for the instructions to perform System Restore in Windows XP OS:

This should solve the problem dude.
