Mine popped out on its own once I hit about 6 months or so. (I'd had the belly button piercing for over 5 years at that point.)
If it hadn't popped out on its own, I probably would have had to remove it on my own soon anyhow. It was starting to rub against my maternity shirts and/or pants, and that was quite annoying!
Though if I'd known at the beginning that it was going to pop out, I'd have just taken the darn thing out before my belly got bigger. Would have been more simple that way.

I've had my pierced for 4 years and I just recently took mine out. I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and I am pretty small. My belly button started hurting and now it's all red at the two holes. It looks really bad because I guess it stretched out more because I left it in. I still stick it through daily to make sure it doesn't grow up.. I will never pierce it again! lol But I wouldn't recommend leaving it in the whole time. My holes are HUGE!!

You have to take it out. I had mine pierced and had to take it out. Pretty much just because it will hurt really bad. By the time I was 7 months pregnant i didnt have a belly button anymore!!! Your stomach hurts enough from stretching, a belly button ring, OUCH!!! It would probably tear.

It was weird my belly button never popped out but it did stretch out enough that the one side of my piercing (the bottom that's in you belly button hole) is now outside of the hole! lol But it will go back. Don't worry too much! It also got a little red around the top hole I'm not sure why. Check out the pic:

every person is different i guess but for me i had to take mine out .... as your belly grows, your belly button starts to become an outtie and stretches the hole thus making it hard for a belly ring to stay in plus it would look really weird.... i did keep sliding the belly ring in every so often to keep it from closing up and after i had my daughter i put it back in....

If you are a small person, it stretches. Larger people don't seem to have this problem. But I kept mine in and it was fine, I'm a little fluffy. While my skinny friends ended up having to take theirs out because this particular skin won't bounce back to it's original position.
