I like to use my debit card as much as i can, but there are times i need to write a check. well the gas station and one other store here is now asking for my phone number, date of birth and DL number. I understand that want to protect me, but i do not like giving all that stuff out and what is funny is that on my card i have c id (check id) and they won't ask me for mine. In your state, when you write a check, do that ask for all that info? thanks

Yes, they do and when I worked at Walmart we were told we had to ask for all of that stuff. Some people would get mad because they had it on their checks but if the computer prompted us to enter a driver's license number then we had to enter it or the computer would not go any further with the transaction and we were supposed to see it to make sure the customer's checks had not been stolen. It either prompted once a year or if the customer had wrote several checks within the past few days. After awhile they told us we didn't have to verify the ID unless the computer prompted it but there are some places here that I am surprised they don't ask for a sample of blood when you write a check. LOL.

Yes...and it's quite annoying. They may as well ask for your SSN and blood type while they're at it. They aren't asking for that stuff to protect YOU. They are asking to protect themselves if you write a bad check so that they know how to get a hold of you. Businesses know that bad checks are written all the time and when a debit card is used...they get their money either way because a lot of banks are starting to pay the money for you but charge fees if you pay out more than what is available in your account.

Yes, they do. I actually canceled a department store credit card because a girl put all that information on my check. I have no problem with it if I was buying, (I never write cks for that anymore) but I was paying a bill. I asked her if a lot of people steal other people's cks and pay the bill for them. I don't like all my personal info floating around out there. If I mail a ck, they don't have it. I don't see the difference.

I think it's up to the vendor. My family runs a business and we require all that information to be written on the check if it's the first time we're accepting a check from the person. This is legal in NJ. It's because if we have to put that check into collections, the more information we have, the more likely we are to recoup the funds.

Washington State, writing a check requires a driver's license or state ID. Very time consuming for retailers since they have to write all your info down.

Yes they ask for all those details. unfortunately there are many people out there who write bad checks or don't make good on the payment.

it could be all surprising if a woman member of group seems at her face however the ladies in burkha would desire to be indignant if a male group asks her in a persuasive and forcing form of way. in case you do no longer examine identity then u by no skill realize it would desire to somebody posing to be an grownup and it would desire to be a childrens buying cigarettes and lighters and which would be incorrect and a criminal offense.

They ask for that here too in some places. I don't think it's necessary but they say it's for safety measures.
