unexpectedly, and then decides after several months of travelling (for fun) that its time for them to come back and carry on with the relationship, would you take them back? Although not normal, does this happen?

Does this happen? Yes it does. Do you take them back? That depends on who you are, how you feel about them, about what they did, and whether you believe in them, in their wanting to come back.
Most wouldn't. They deserted you, your relationship.

If he left you unexpectedly for fun, he will do it again, unless he shares his feelings as to why he did it in the first place. If his reason(s) or feelings are satisfactory and it is something you BOTH can work on, you can try. Otherwise, a "for fun" excuse isn't good enough to take anyone back.

I don't know...it's been 11 months for me and suddenly my husband is back at my door, claiming he now understands what I was trying to tell him. He's had this nice little "vacation" from our marriage - has slept around and been to numerous parties, taken up drinking...suddenly he thinks he wants his family back. I'll be interested to read the answers to this because as far as I'm concerned, he doesn't deserve it. He's got a lot to prove before it can even be a consideration...how do you know he won't do it again?

Hell no, I wouldn't take him back! How dare he think he can control when and if we get back together!!! The r'ship is not on HIS timeline and you shouldn't allow him that much control over you. Marriage is not a whim that you flake out on from one day to the next. Marriage is a life-long commitment and obviously he doesn't get that at all. I would cut ties with him and just move on with my life and next time, find a man who actually understands what marriage is about!

No way. Thats abandonment, and one of the most selfish things I have ever heard of. It's a slap in the face, like you werent good enough to go have fun with them, or you werent the first person they thought of when they thought about experiencing new and exciting places.

Nope - I would have already turned my own corner and totally unavailable. Not to say in another relationship - just not available for the returning "spouse".

It happened to me, I did not take him back. I couldn't gamble with my life like that.
