Ok well that cranky person would be my hubby... He's bipolar and doesn't take his meds right for anything! Grrrrr! So, when he's really cranky, oh I shouldn't admit this lol I double up on his meds! lol That calms him down the best. hehe...

Hi,
Avoid them as much as possible!
If I have to be in the same room I'd ideally ignore their behaviour. If they're in a bad mood and we respond, it will just add fuel to the fire. No response means they can brood in isolation!
If I'm trying to work in a group and one is cranky or unreasonable I will politely tell them that their behaviour is causing the group a problem and then as long as there is a consesus, I would go with the general views/opinion of the group and leave the cranky person to mutter under is breath as they so often do, but pretend not to have heard!!!
How can you tell I've been there before???!

Cranky level 1 - tell them to go home
Cranky level 2 - tell them it is in their best interest to stop now
Cranky level 3 - have a seat in the back of my car while I call you in and run a check
Cranky level 4 - get cuffed and come downtown, we must talk
*******
on a personal level...don't get cranky with me, I tend to be cranky back at ya

I took a course in college 10 weeks on how to deal with cranky people, it would take me twice as long to explain how and wear to start. Good luck

I used to work with a cranky person. He would come in and I'd say, very cheerfully, "GOOD MORNING" and he would outright growl at me sometimes. One day I asked him why he didn't like me. He said because I was too happy all the time. I asked him how he would like it if I hugged him when he came in. He said THAT WOULD BE WORSE! I said, "See, I'm being nice to you, because I hug everyone else." He was nicer to me from then on and I became the one person that he came to with problems.
I just try to smile at people and if they end up smiling back, it may make their day better.

I continue being nice. I might interject some humor. Or I flat out tell them they're a crankass......depending on my mood.

I have a quote up on the fridge..it says:

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I love it!

I try to get them into a conversation about something silly, this usually stops the cranks.
If this doesn't work, them I ask them if they'd like me to do my impression of someone on the rag, if they accidently say yes, then I ask them if they have a mirror.
They either, laugh or they get insulted & I still get in my chuckles for the day.

I ignore them. Or wait till they go away. And then I relish the peace and quiet. Unfortunately my Manager has chronic PMS so I have to deal with that crap everyday. She needs some Xanax.
