I took him to the doctor today and he has to get some lab work done. By the way he just turned 3 months. For about a week off and on hes had diahrrea, low grade fever, loss of appetite, very cranky, crying all day, chewing on what he can, mucous in his stools, drooling, very fidgity, just cant hold still, and his face he gets really red. He used to have 1-2 stools a day now its 6-8. But today he had 11 stools and very loose, mostly watery. I have never been so freaked out. But we wont know anything until all the tests come back. If hes still like this tomarrow, Im going to take him to the ER. The dr didnt think I needed to until the tests come back. Im giving him pediolite inbetween every feeding and tylenol. The dr said alot of times with mucous in the stools means an infecton. I have no idea whats wrong and I dont know what to do for the poor guy. I feel terrible. I dont think I can wait for the tests. What should I do? Does anyone have an idea what it could be?? Please Help!!

I feel for your little man! When my daughter was 6 weeks old, she started getting terribly sick with diahrea, fevers, non stop crying. I took her straight to the ER. Trust your mommy's instinct. If you feel that he needs to be in the hospital, then take him there. But way the pro's and con's of it also. Hospital's are filled with bacteria and of course, sick people, so you may want to wait until the test results come back...since the hospital will end up running the same tests on him anyways. But again, trust the mommy instict. If you feel that he is getting worse AT ALL, take him straight to the ER. I hope your little man feels better soon and I hope the test results come back with something that is easily treated.

This sounds like my oldest. He had the diarrhea everytime he got sick, however he didn't have the mucus, wasn't fidgity, or the drooling. That part of things would concern me too. You said he has no appetite, do you know the signs of dehydration? The easiest to assess are no tears while crying and a dry mouth. Also you can push gently on his eyeballs, they should be firm (touch yours) if they aren't go to the ER. The other thing you can do is push on his skin, it should turn white and disappear, if it doesn't that may also be a sign of dehydration. If he becomes dehydrated, it's hard to controll a fever. I'm sure there are worse things than that, that's what I remember. AS far as the diarrhea is concerned, push all the liquids he'll take to prevent the dehydration. How does his butt look? I've found equate diaper rash cream from Walmart has the most zinc in it which is what healps heal the diaper rash. The Resinol you can ask for at the pharmacy is great too, but I'm not sure with his age. My oldest had to use 1% hydrocortison cream, but check with his doctor because of his age. My son did have that much diarrhea, several diff times, it was the only sickness he got in infancy.
I know it has been said, but Follow your instincts. If something changes or something in your gut tells you to take him to the ER, just go. I'd rather look silly for being overprotective, than wish I had. I knew something was wrong with my oldest, took him to the doc, said it was a virus. Took him to the ER, sent me home. WEnt to a diff ER next day and he had pnemonia, nonsymptomatic. Caught it very early. If you don't feel comfortable waiting, then don't. Hope he gets better, I know how stressful and helpless it feels when your baby is sick.

It just sounds like he caught some sort of virus, perhaps a type of stomach bug, in additon to teething.
As others have stated, the only real immediate danger is dehydration. Just keep pushing the fluids, forcing them with a medicine syringe in needed. As long as he continues to pee (6 or more times per day), then he shouldn't be getting too dehydrated.
The only time we ever had to take our first baby to the ER was a night he came down with a stomach virus, but the main issue there was vomiting. He couldn't even keep water down. So since the after-hour clinic was full, our PED sent us to the ER where they connected him to an IV to give him fluids, and administer some drug to (phenagrin?) to stop the vomiting. But in this case, the main reason for the ER visit was that we could not get fluids in him.

I hate to make something very serious sound trivial, but it could be related to teething.
When a baby teethes, they produce more saliva, which can sometimes lead to diarrhea. This would also explain the constant chewing, crying all day, loss of appetite (he might not want to suck because his gums are sore), and the low grade fever.
That is just an option though. Definitely have it checked out to make sure it's nothing serious.

Calm down first off, because you being so worked up can actually make him more cranky. He probably caught a virus. Is he bottlefed or breast fed? That could be something too. If he is breastfed it could be something that you ate that isn't settling with him. Is anyone around you sick? Babies are more apt to catch something people have than you would. If someone that has been around him sick, then that could cause it. If he's bottlefed, have you checked the expiration on the formula? How often are you giving him the tylenol? DOn't give it closer than 4 hours unless doc told you to do so. If he isn't better tomorrow, call your doc prior to going to er. You might not need the extra expense. Hopefully he gets better soon!

You should take your son to the ER. If your 3 month old son is having that many diarrhea stools, then he is very likely dehydrated. Babies that age become dehydrated very quickly. He is obviously uncomfortable. Your should have had your sons lab work back almost immediately. It doesn't take much time to see what his white cell count is.
It could be nothing serious, but why risk it?

My first thought was that it might be teething.
If you have seen a doctor on this I would go with his or her judgment unless you think things have gotten dramatically worse.
The ER might be a good option, however, it might take quite a while to be seen and you run the risk of exposing him to people who may be very sick and very infectious. I would try the doctor again, by phone, before going to the ER.
Relax. Babies are pretty tough, just like we are. They do scare us pretty good, but they generally handle illnesse pretty much the same way we do. You are understandably concerned, particularly if he is your first child. Do what you can for him, seek advice when you aren't sure, and pretty much keep on doing what you're doing.

If he is not in main suffering or misery, I would not take him to the ER. This is also, as they are saying, an "Urgency", however it isn't an "emergency". Where I are living, a non-lifestyles threatening shuttle to the ER way you are looking ahead to approximately 12 hours. You can take a look at a few hot packs, alternating with cool packs. Maybe take a look at somewhat little bit of kid's ibuprofin or tylenol (until there's a few clinical contraindication there). See how he feels within the morning.

Did you do the lab work today? The doc should have put a rush on that. Did he start him on any meds? Follow your instincts! There is nothing like a motherly love. And it has often times saved lives. What will it hurt to go to the ER....I would also documenting everything... Good luck!

Take him to another doctor. And if that doctor wont give you answers take him to another one. Go the ER. Do whatever you can but this doc of yours sounds like a quack. Hes really not helping you.
