Lived in Southern California for 8 years, and the house I'm in currently can sell for $650k, and in Texas they have a bigger, nicer, cooler house for only $300k and it looks amazing and I can have the rest of the money invested in a small business like 7 eleven or Mcdonalds

Am I going to have difficulty adjusting to Texas?

that depends on you and where you go in Texas. Adjusting to any big change can be hard but the biggest issue most people face is there own reaction to change, not some external force. So just be open and willing to flex some and you should be fine.

I, by the way, love Texas!

Probably.
Depends on where you live in California and where you live in Texas. The place most like CA in TX is Austin and that is the most expensive housing right now.
TX is so conservative that candidates charge their opponent with being liberal if he is to the left of Attila the Hun.
TX considers child care, welfare, education so important that it ranks with Mississippi and Alabama in national ratings.
TX considers breathing so important that when business leaders in North Texas proposed a plan for limiting pollution they could live with, the board on Environmental Quality, which has no members from NT, ignored it and forwarded to the EPA a plan that the EPA has already rejected.
Schools are so important that the Legislature, which only meets every two years, has failed to deal with it in a realistic way for over 5 years.
And we have a state constitution that is so restrictive that we as voters have to amend it to change the affiliation of a college from the UT system to the TA&M system (which affects funding, etc.)
I grew up in the midwest and it took me ten years. From CA, you may take 20 or 5 depending on Orange County or elsewhere.

I am a mortgage loan officer and would definitely like to help you apply for your home loan. If you are going to invest, I would suggest real estate, not a business. You can buy duplexes and make a killing. Just be careful about who you rent to. My sister has 4 homes she leases to Drs. and attorneys. Think about it.

It could take forever..... or you might have some Jethro in you and you might take to it like peas and carrots. I grew up in CA and could never live there.
