manhattan beach, ca or manhattan, ny?

I love the year-round warm weather of manhattan beach, but have family near manhattan, ny...I realize both of these places are very expensive, but please help me decide - I need to make a decision long-term and plan on buying at least a condo one day.

Hectic, exciting big city life? or lazy hot summer days at ehe beach? Manhattan beach is in close proximity to the night life of LA which is different but every bit as exciting as NY. So go for the beach and have the benefits of both lifestyles.
