The trip is supposed to last only 7 days, but we will probably extend it to fit more stops in along the way. We are driving the whole way, and hoping to soak in as much as possible. Any suggestions for must-see towns, memorials, historical sights or oddities would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ocean Springs, MS is a beautiful small town with a huge arts presence. The Anderson family has run Shearwater Pottery since the 20's, and the first weekend in November is the Peter Anderson Memorial Festival. Last year tens of thousands of people came to see hundreds of artists and craftsmen, listen to live music, eat, of course. That's the most exciting weekend (outside of Mardi Gras), but Ocean Springs' community building is worth seeing any time of year. The interior has wrap-around floor-to-ceiling murals, done by Walter Inglis Anderson, whose work has been displayed in the Smithsonian. The building is downtown, which is a compact area with lots of shops and galleries, 15 minutes off of I-10.
I really recommend this city for one of your side-trips. I went for a class years ago, since then I've taken my husband, brother, friends . . .

Well I live in Arizona and I could tell ya that of course the Grand Canyon is an awesome sight they also have a new like plexie glass or something to were you can walk out and look under yourself down into the canyon scary but cool I haven't been there since they have done it but sounds awesome. And Motezuma's castle is cool too it's a old castle built into a mountain its along the way of the Grand Canyon so I don't think it would be out of your way... Have fun that's all I know is Arizona..

In NM--to the north--Taos Pueblo and the town--lots of art. To the south is Carlsbad Caverns. Both worth seeing--depending which part of the state you will be in or your preference
