Ok, well i have these cousions who think that because they make so much money and live in very big houses that they are the best thing since sliced bread. well we had a big family dinner tonight. One cousion stood up to say that he got a raise and is now making 6 fig. than his sister stood up to tell everyone that she got into med school. than they look at me. I work with small kids and would not trade my job for the world. I love it. They smugly asked me how my job was going and me being the smarta$$ said " you won't believe it, but i finished a puzzle in 6 hrs and on the box it said two to three years" they got all pissy and said i needed to grow up. They look down on me and think i could do better. I do not want to be with these two anymore, bu my grandfather is sick and wants us to be togeather alot. How can i deal with them w/o upseting gramps? thanks

i have tried and tired to be nice to them. I have been told by them that if i want a better life i need to stop teaching these kids. i would not even be around them if it was not for my grandpas request that we all spend tons of time togeather.

Based on your account of things, it sounds like everybody is being a little bit immature. Your cousins should be proud of you for being in a position that you are happy with. I mean, that's what counts, obviously. You could probably afford to be a little less defensive yourself. Could it be possible that your cousins asked how your job was going out of genuine interest, and maybe you felt inferior and got defensive? I think your sarcastic reply would be the reason for them to say you needed to grow up.
The grown-up thing for you to do would be to admit that you got a little defensive after hearing about how successful they were, and then have them turn and ask how your job was going, as though it was intended as a 'jab'. Give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't intend to mock you. Tell them that you're happy with your career, and hope they can respect that. You don't have to be best friends in the world, but it'll at least make being around them a little easier.

Leave them alone, why don't cha? Nobody cares and that person is going through some changes, probably. Keep out of it. Don't be kicking them while they are down. You are truly selfish and unkind. What a wicked way to behave. Just backoff and find some other way to occupy your time. I would like to tell you a thing or two.

Just ignore them. If they are Christians than they should never act that way and you should bring it to their attention. Also if you are a Christian than you should take that in to consideration and next time you are in the same situation you should stand up and say that you are saved and are set for eternity with everything you need. No amount of money or success can beat that.

They are just the every-day corporate boring people who only care about what the world has done for them lately, what has been done to make them happy lately; you know?

You are actually educating and helping to secure children's' mind sets - so Kudos to you :)

I'm sure Gramps is not completely oblivious to your family's differences in goals and will probably support you on your choice of lifestyle, just explain that you need to move on with your life. I know my gramp was pleased for me to bugger off.

Just ignore them, seriously. They sound like they're not worth your (or anyone's time) If they are going to have attitudes like that, it's just plain rude. Try to avoid them.
