Lots of artistic people live around the inner city in suburbs like Newtown, Paddington and Darlinghurst.
There are also lots of artists groups in the Blue Mountains where it is a lot cheaper to live.
Cheers

There are artists everywhere in Sydney although they tend to favour inner suburbs such as Newtown, Glebe, Darlinghurst, Woollahra, Paddington, Erskineville, Surry Hills and Redfern. Musicians, writers, sculptors, painters etc tend to like the more bohemian inner suburb life with its village atmosphere. Sydney University lies between Newtown and Glebe.
To correct some errors, the vast majority of people living in Redfern are of European origin. There is a small area which is mainly Aboriginal. The vast majority of people in Darlinghurst are not doctors and gays although suburbs like Darlinghurst and Newtown have a higher gay population than most suburbs.
I have lived in Paddington, Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Erskineville and Newtown over many years and know the suburbs and many artistic people well.

about whats been said below- the majority of the population in darlinghurst is drs for st vincents hospital and gays....and redfern the vast majority of people living there are aboriginals...
but i do however agree with the blue mountains, whihc strictly speaking isnt part of sydney, but literally sits of the boarder of the metropoliton area. you also tend to find artisitc people on the northern beaches....well known artists who actaully make some dough from their work tend to live in waterfront suburbs like milsons point and lavender bay.
thats just my opinion
