If you multiply or divide the top (numerator) and bottom (denominator) of the fraction by the same amount you will get an equivalent fraction: 8/8 = 16/16 = 2/2 2/15 = 4/30 = 6/45 2/21 = 4/42 = 6/63

An equivalent fraction is a fraction with different numerators/denominators but same value.
Take #2 for example. What's another fraction that's equivalent to 3/5? Multiplying by 2/2 or 10/10 is the easiest way to find an equivalent fraction btw.
30/50 is an equivalent fraction, since 30/50=3/5.

These are always tough at first but it is really easy once you get the hang of it. To do this pick any number and multiply the top and the bottom of the fraction by the same number.

Example

1/4 = 2/8 I multiplied the top and the bottom by 2
1/4 = 4/16 I multiplied the top and the bottom by 4

You can also divide both the top and the bottom by a number, but I only suggest doing this if both are divisible by that number:

Example:

20/40 = 2/4 I divided the top and the bottom by 10.

20/40 = 1/2 I divided the top and the bottom by 20.

The important thing to remember is to either multiply or divide both the top and the bottom by the SAME number.

1/1=2/2=3/3=4/4
1/4=2/8=4/16.......etc
Multiply or divide numerator AND denominator by 1= same
2/2=1, 5/5=1, 39/39=1
1/8*5/5=5/40......
