The doc found melanoma cancer on my shoulder the first of June 2007 in a biopsy. He had to go back and remove a large section of my skin and muscle in my arm in case any cells had spread. That test came back cancer free. I have a big scar and he said it would be a year before I got all the strength back in my left arm because of the deep muscle tissue he remove but I am alive and cancer free. When I see the scar it is a reminder I could have died from this. My first cousin died from melanoma and my Dad has had it and his treatment work. Catching it early is a big factor in melanoma.

Cancer is terrible when it affects children. I'm really happy for you that your sister fought and is still alive. I'm sorry for your uncles. ((hug))
A lot of cancer in my family. My mom had breast cancer. My aunt has it now too. My grand-mother had skin cancer. My grand-father had prostate cancer. Add this to the heart problems, the picture is very clear to me... I'll die of cancer or of an heart attack... Unless I take really good care of myself.

I'm happy to hear that your sister is a cancer survivor.
I have lost a few friends and family members to various types of cancer.
One that was most special to me was a cousin. I have no brothers or sisters and he and I were always very close. We were one year apart in age and went to school together growing up. He was the big brother that I always longed for. He lost his life to cancer on July 4, 2003. I have a tattoo in memory of him. It is a heart shaded "old school" style like the American flag. His date of birth and date of death are inside of the heart. Above the heart is his full name, below the heart it reads "Forever in my Heart".

a very good friend of mine was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2002. she had chemo and was ok for 18 months. it came back and was in her stomach and intestines. she has gone through the chemo and radiation. her doctors are no longer treating the cancer but is now doing the "pain management" thing. she is a fighter and does not want to sit back and wait for the inevitable. she will be going to Cancer Treatment Center of America.
the thing that really blows my mind is that she was only 41 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer!

I once heard that years ago everybody knew somebody that knew somebody that had cancer, and then it changed to everybody knew somebody that had cancer, and now it's basically somebody in your family will have cancer. I've also heard that we will all get cancer if we don't die from something else first; it's just a matter of when.

Actually, my parents just came home from a wake a few hours ago for a woman who died from cancer, she lived in the next town over. She grew up with my Mom's sister and friends, and my Mom knew her somewhat. I guess she had breast cancer, but then they found out she also had bone cancer. She was only diagnosed a few months ago. It got her pretty quick. She was only 40. And sadly, she left behind two boys (six and four years old).

Yes, my grandmother has small cell lung cancer. Never smoked in her entire life. But she has lived a long and good life.
If your sister and your uncles have had cancer, it means that you must also have a very significant risk of getting cancer. Its probably very important for you to get a check up soon. If my grandmother's cancer was discovered earlier we wouldn't be so stressed out all of the time.

I have it, and have lost many friends and loved ones to it. My uncle is dying right now from stomach cancer. It's devastating. I hope that your sister keeps fighting. My prayers will be with you! You're not alone!

Not at the present but I lost a 6 yr. old niece to it just a few years ago, my grandfather, friends and friends family members have passed from it. Just today a I received an email from one of my contacts that her Dad just passed with it. Terrible disease I really wish they'd find a cure to wipe it out for good. I'm happy that your sister pulled through it but I'm sorry about your losses.

Yes, my boss from work is a SURVIVOR of breast cancer...she is amazing because she lives every day to the fullest now, and she lives like each day is her last because she knows how much she values life after her illness. God Bless her and all the other cancer patients!
