The bulbs have all been replaced and all fuses are good. What else can it be? We have heard of a brake light switch. What exactly does a brake light switch do? Where can we find one? And is that likely to be the problem?

The brake light switch is a possible problem. It is located under the driver side of the dash and actually touches the brake pedal arm. The only thing it does is close the circuit when you press the pedal. In some cases it will also disengage the cruise control. They are available at most auto parts stores and the dealership.

Turn on your emergency flashers or turn on turn signals , left and right, and see if tail lights flash. If so then you know the circuit is ok. The brake lite switch is probably the problem. It is a small device mounted on the brake master cylinder. It will have one or two wires plugged into it. Go to auto supply and buy new one then you will know what it looks like. Should be about $5
