This could actually be done, as could moving the earth to a different orbit, further from or closer to the sun. It would be done by altering the orbit of an asteroid to loop around the earth over and over. Every loop would move the earth ever so slightly but over millions of years would result in a huge cumulative change. Doing this would add 100's of millions of years to the earth's habitable life time when the sun starts getting hotter as it gets older.

Well, the earth turns around the Sun because of velocity and gravity. The velocity creates centrifigul force, and the gravity pulls it in, therefore spinning it. We could stop this by getting giant rockets and pulling the Earth! Amazing!

Easy, increase the mass of the sun by about 140 solar masses, the Earth will cease to exist, spinning or otherwise.

Get a BIG rope... lasso the world... Tie the rope (slip knot) to the moon.. It should come to a screeching halt, but if not.. Plan b!

Jump up and down 11 times, spit on a tree twice, yell "abra cadabra, stopp-o twirlie-o".... then clap. should solve your problem
