The miss South Carolina incident has many people saying that the US is getting stupider by the second, and I think this confirms it

I'm currently attending a university, and it's pretty funny at first watching what happened to her, but not knowing what year the 9/11 attacks happened is pathetic. Most people in other countries know that.

Is anybody else worried about this whole beauty-over-brain trend that we see today?

Is it a trend, something that'll pass? Or is it something more serious?

Cut me some slack, I know that I haven't perfected my english; it's not my native language, but you understand what I'm trying to say.

first of all, I know it should've been "more stupid" or "dumber" etc...

the reason I asked this question is because the US is supposed to be the strongest, wealthiest nation in the world, and it is; but how is it possible for nation like this one to be so shallow? And some people wonder why the US is the laughingstock of many other nations, both developed and undeveloped.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood today, but this really pisses me off.

Because the successful use of a condom (or any other birth control) requires one to be able to comprehend and follow instructions. That requires at least some intelligence. The least intelligent among us have the most difficulty with such things and thus reproduce more.

I think it's something that started with our push to make everyone feel good about themselves. I had a principal that insisted that everyone should get an award. Well, I can understand for little kids, but not everyone in jr. high deserves an award. I asked him if I could give them for breathing since that's all some of them did. In school if I didn't get an award for something, it made me try harder the following year. Also, some parents don't want to make their kids do the hard things they don't want to do like learning states and capitals and world countries and capitals. We had some parents say that was too much for 7th graders to learn. Also, I think some "stars" put down education. It's not as bad as it used to be, but it seemed for quite a while that kids who got good grades were looked down on. I think that trend is slowly changing, but it's going to take some time.

The academic level in America is just more stratified. The smarts are getting smarter while the rest falling behind. We have too many political correctness to deal with. Too often, there are schools who will lower the standard so that more people can pass (and feel good about themselves).

Why? There are no more standards. Our country doesn't value true education, just diploma certification. Nobody reads anymore. We are consumers instead of creators. Advertising and marketing dominate. We value comfort and pleasure over skill and higher ideals.

Developing the intellect involves training. Training requires effort. People want instant gratification of ring tones and shiny technological toys. America has never really valued education like other countries.

There are so many reasons why.

Our schools are not up to par with other countries. They go much more in depth in science and languages, and other cultures. America acts like all we need to know is us. And we see this divide. Brain wise. We really need to expand and realize there is a whole nother world out there.

I think it's tragic that someone who uses the word 'stupider' asked this question pointing fingers at others.

:::If you enjoy talking the USA down so much, you can always leave this 'laughing stock' country and go back to where your native language is from.

You're currently attending a university, and you don't realize that "stupider" is not a word? Maybe you've answered your own question.
