You'll want to solve for x.
So, pretty much you're trying to find what number added to 55 and 105 equals 180.
So, first add 55 and 105 together, that's 160.
So now, the equation is 160+x=180
I'm sure you can do this part in your head, but let's solve it
160 is added to x, so to get rid of it you'll want to subtract 160 from both sides
160+x-160=180-160
160-160=0, so you're left with x=20
You can plug 20 into the first equation and see that it works

This one's SUPER EASY! (Thank the goddess you're not studying differential calculus...I'd look like an idiot then!) Using the commutative property of addition, add 55+105+x=180. You then get 160 + x=180. Subtract 160 from each side. (In algebra, what you do to one side of the equation, you MUST do to the other, to maintain equality at all times.) You then get x=20, which is the correct answer. This is SUPER SIMPLE! Thanks. You made my day. One of the most beautiful things about math is that usually, there is only one answer, and that answer is always achieved by using pure logic. There is no grey area in math. Either it is, or it isn't the answer. Considering the fact that the rest of the world is almost COMPLETELY subjective, I take great peace of mind and rest in these facts. I kinda checked out from Calculus (It began in Trig and Advanced Math when I decided that men were much more interesting...) and Quantum Physics however. My brain at 16, 17, and 18 was in no way about higher maths and pure sciences. I sometimes regret that now, but it's never too late to go back until they throw the dirt on. I am not convinced it is even too late then. Tell yourself that you love math, that it is like a giant code just waiting to be solved, and that those solving it make LOADS of money. Perhaps you'll like it better then! Also tell yourself every single day of your life that you're really, really good at math and that you love it. Only tell yourself positive things, no matter what the subject. Your subconcious mind believes ALL the positive things it is told. If you tell yourself you're really good at math long enough and that you love it long enough, it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy!
