Im new to this country and Im obviously new to the English language and I need someone to tell me what it is... is it a place, a behavior, clothing style??? how would YOU define it???

I call it home. I live in the ghetto
A crime ridden place where you hear three seperate police sirens and usually one helicopter looking for someone every day. You can score whatever drugs you want if you know where to look, gangs all over, and the environment is just so dreary. But on the flip side, if your a teenager its so easy to score alcohol and cigarettes, they dont check ID half the time. And its not "where black people live" like all these idiots who have never been to the ghetto in their lives say. Sure there are more black people but there are lots of whites, Asians, and Mexicans living here.

A neighborhood where typically black people live. Although there used to be what were called jewish ghettoes as well. Being ghetto (which doesn't necessarily have to do with being black) is acting in a less than polite manner. Something that is ghetto, is basically something that is cheap, or put together wrong, like if you had a crack in your car windsheild and you put a piece of duct tape on it, instead of replacing it, that's ghetto.

ghetto is a place, but also a way people act...
living in the ghetto, well the word came from the holocaust where several people were forced to live in a small apartment, in a small building...with horrible living conditions. now a days it means basically the same thing, but there is more government help for people to get things they need...[food, clothes, etc...] so its nowhere near as bad now...but a lot of crime goes on ther, and people talk junk but they dont understand...if you grow up with nothing, you will do anything you can to have something!
now acting ghetto, thats a who different story lol...once you meet somebody ghetto you'll know it..

Doing everything the cheap, easy way.
(now that doesnt apply to everyone who lives in the innercity. I should know, I live in the 'ghetto' and am nothing like that. ^Thats is just a general thing. A stereotype, you could say...)

Ghetto is a Hebrew (or Yiddish) word referring to an enclave of a concentrated ethnic group within a city. Originally Jews.

i dont really know how to put it into words but the ghetto is like a miny town of a different custom within a town itself. like you know in new york city how there is china town and little italy? well those are ghettos. their like miny versions of a town/community. if your talking about ww2 thats where all the jews had to live. in a fenced in kind of area. a miny jewish community. now they are refered to as trashy areas. sorry if i confused you

a ghetto could mean a lot of things the most common thing is gangsters or a place were a lot of gangsters are
