If you're taking honors/AP classes, you should be getting at least a 3.9 - 4.0 GPA, or even above that. Taking lots and lots of extracirricular activities, such as clubs and sports, are great for any school, especially like Stanford. You better be some kind of perfectionist to go to there, though. Its tough, trust me.

Times have changed. "Prestigious" universities are now recruiting students who have studied overseas, can speak a foreign language fluently, and have their works published. Community service and classes are nice, but their looking for things that are out of the ordinary. In essence, what makes you stick out from all the other students. You have taken Honors and AP, so what? So did everybody else. You have done community service and extra curricular activities, so what? So has everybody else. I don't want to sound negative, but like I said, what makes you stand out from all of the other applicants?

3.8 unweighted, over 4.0 weighted, lots of AP and Honors classes, SAT score over 2200 (out of 2400).

Even then, you might not get in. Stanford only accepts about 8% of applicants. If half the students who apply are qualified (and I suspect that it is actually greater), then only about 16% of qualified students get in.

I did a search on Collegeboard.com
GPA: 94% have 3.75+
Rank: 89% are in top ten percent

As for extracurriculars, they want people who are passionate and dedicated to a few extracurriculars that they can excel in, instead of a huge "laundry list" that shows no dedication.
