Yes, but eviction takes a long time. There is no way he went through a legal eviction process and you have to be out by Monday. It takes MONTHS to evict someone.

In the future, DON'T PAY CASH WITHOUT A RECEIPT for ANYTHING.

This is just a few days? Your cousin should call the county housing department, a lawyer or legal aid. There's due process involved in eviction, but you have to know your rights.

What's more important is why would he pay his rent in cash and not get a receipt! That's just asking for trouble. It's his (and your husband's I guess) word against the landlord. Pay by check. Get a receipt. This is probably a sad lesson learned the hard way.

Well.. There is a need of proof that the money was paid cash.. it could easily be words from yuor husband and cousin against the landlors.. Was there a receipt or something? I think this case is loss since there is really no proof... I don't think the landlord will evict them but he will want his money.. If not, then it will be considered as a breach of contract..

Where is your receipt? If you can't come up with it - get a witness. If both are not available - you didn't pay the landlord.
This is why you pay with check or money order so that you will not have problem with landlords. Not everybody is honest you know even your landlord. But who can say you've paid if you have no proof? Even if it is a mistake- your at lost.

Are you kidding?

Paid in cash without demanding a receipt.

Landlord is blowing smoke.

The landlord has to go through the legal process unless the tenant believes the lies the landlord tells and move out on their own thinking they are going to be evicted.

Wait for the paperwork.

As far as paying in cash I'll repeat. Are you kidding me?

If you indeed paid in cash...SOMEONE MUST HAVE GIVEN YOU A RECEIPT...hopefully, you saved it...even though it was put under the door...OTHERWISE...someone just stole it...sorry....Yes, he can be evicted for failure to pay rent...sooo sorry about that...from now on make sure you PAY IN PERSON...to prevent someone from stealing the money...

This is pretty much a "he said, she said" situation. Since there was no receipt of transaction, it never really happened. You can gather the rest of the story yourself. The eviction must take place unless there is another agreement struck really soon.
