Ok so heres the deal I have never been a team sports type of guy ever in my entire life, my parents would always try and force me but I hated it. Anyways so my friend today decided that she wanted me to do swim team and then after I went to the meeting, I decided that it could actually be alot of fun and I might actually enjoy it. Also Im a Sophmore this year and last year as a freshmen I did no extra currirculiar activities and I need to do some this year and the next 2 to make up for it.

But there is one problem, It has been like forever since I have swam in a pool and done like laps and I don't know if im gonna be able to make it, I mean I am in Ok shape but not enough to where I can do like 20 laps tho.

I have a month to train before the first meeting so if anyone would be glad to give me some pointers on what the best workouts are with WEIGHTS, I dont have a pool nor is anyone of them open at this time of year, and my parents wouldnt take me anyways...

I've swam on a team since I was 6, and a lot of excercises can be really helpful. First of all you might want to ask your friend if you can go to the pool together and practice a few laps so your parents won't have to take you. Okay, weights actually really can help you swim better, because you need a lot of upper and lower body strength to swim. Push ups, sit-ups, lunges, these things called up-and-downs, and even some running for your endurance can help you a lot. Hope you do really well. Swim teams are so much fun :)

weights make your muscle fibers do one thing and swimming makes them go another way. One book I'd recommend is the "The Science of Swimming" by James Councilman.

Work on your stroke mechanics, your water control and think about your bow wave on the freestyle stroke.

In 1971 I could swim 100 meter butterfly in 1:07.15 and one day in a 3 a day work out we swam 16,000 meters.

Later in Nov 1971 I swam 200 yard butterfly in 2:11.1 seconds.
