Yes thsi is true. I live in a mainly amish and mennonite community, some of their ways are bizarre to me, but yet when one of "their own" has a barn fire the whole commuinty gets together and a new barn is up and standing and functional just a few days later. Those amish and mennonite women can bake some pretty mean food to!!! you ain't never had a pie unless its made by a true blue blooded mennonite or amish!!
Angelia, No they do not wear lavish gowns or tuxes. They wear very simple dress for a wedding.

The Amish believe in living as peacefully and plainly as possible. So it makes sense to them to not have a rowdy or vivacious wedding. Its just not Amish.
Side note here...I also think that if we adopted their way of peace and non-violence, the world would be a much better place.

I have heard of that before, I don't believe you can even attend the ceremony if you weren't Amish or go inside their Temple or something like that............... Must be something like a Little House on the Prairie wedding or something

I went to an Amish friend's wedding...it was very different from the typical American wedding.
To answer: what is there then?:There is food,lots of it.

Yes I knew that. They live simply and live within their means. The average american is in debt up to their ears. Seems like the Amish do it the smart way.

yes i did know that. seriously who doesnt? they are way to conserivtive for kissing, they dont believe in getting there pictures taken. and they dont really have contact with the outside world since they dont use electircity or anything. but did you know that when ever they are like 18 they are sent out into the real world and if they want they can stay or come back. but if they stay they are shuned by there entire family.

I know some other Amish facts. Have lovely beds in sunlit houses, where they enjoy themselves afterward with their spouse. (One man and one woman)They cook the most tasty food too.

All those other things just take away from the day sometimes. So many people are asking, what's left? LOL You are getting married! All that other stuff (though very fun!) is just for show.
