Yes. Most western countries tax gas heavily so it would only represent a small percentage price increase and the US economy managed to cope the jump from under $2 to over $3 without any major problems it could survive $4 also, but owners of gas guzzlers would not be happy campers.

Yes they can, somewhere between $100 and $200, the flue (ethanol) from corn, sugarcane, etc. becomes cheaper then oil, and the price levels off. Other sources like nuclear energy also kick in. Note that electricity in France is close to 100% nuclear.

Most people can adapt (or go without certain things) the rest can't. What is more of a concern is when oil becomes scarce and there is not enough. That is when survival becomes a challenge.

yes because onnce we get the oil baron out of whit house we will get alternative fuel. I don't think we will get 100 cause its too high people will cut driving heating buy morew efficent cars and decrese demand when the price hit 3+ 2yrs ago people got mad congress made noise and its styed level since
