How many Iraqi orphans are we saving from a life of oppression and tyranny.
Are you advocating abandoning the Iraqi now, what sort of chaos would that ensue. As for creating more terrorists, Bin Ladden himself has now said that the front of the war on terror is now in Iraq, not the U.S. if we leave don't you think that would change again.
I do not approve of the way the war thus far has been waged, however, if we leave now we abandon those Iraqis who were willing to help us to the mobs and mullahs who will rip them form their homes and beat them in the street, if we leave before the job is done.
Hopefully it will be done, the generals all say that it is getting better, we are going to bring them home. But one thing that no one seems to remember is that before we even went into Iraq , even the most optimistic outlook said we would have to be there for at least 8 year after Saddam was overthrown to establish stability.
We had a strong presence in JAPAN for more than 10 years after WWII. And they for the most part were peaceful. how much harder is it in a region as unstable as IRAQ.
We did not start this war, they did. And they aren't going to stop if we leave. They will attack here again. even if we leave.
They hate us, and whether we are here or there they are going to try to kill us.
Additionally it is not the position of the U.S. Government to save orphans in Africa or Cambodia or wherever. That is the job of the private sector and charitable organizations which do a pretty good job. Better than any government agency could.
Governments job is to run the government and keep us safe, hence the war on terrorism, to keep us safe. So even if we stopped fighting we would still not be saving Orphans.

I lived in Kenya for 2 years... flying supplies into places that were having serious problems. The one thing that got me was that about 5 cents for every dollar actually went to the relief operation. The rest went to administrative costs.
UN personnel and relief agency personnel live VERY WELL when they have these little 'Save the World' operations. They stay in 4 and 5 star hotels and eat very well. If they stay at remote locations, they get paid very well... perhaps too well, considering they're "volunteers".
Most funds given directly to the minister of interior is usually embezzled before it even gets into the distribution pool.
I saw the hunger, pain and the warfare first hand. Religion has nothing to do with it. It's a result of pure greed and hatred. It has been going on for thuousands of years, and will probably continue on for thousands more.
Do yourself a favor - look around your hometown. your neighborhood. Surely there is someone in your life that you can help... If we all just took care of those directly around us, the charity will eventually spread.
I do not live in America now. I live where there are problems. I miss my loving family as well. But I will not live a life of luxury if as long as someone around me struggles to have food for their own family. Good luck my friends.

Not going to be a popular answer, I know, but I am pretty thick skinned. I really don't give a Tinker's damn about the starving African, Cambodian, and Indian orphans. I am more concerned with the sick and elderly, and the abused, underprivileged, abandoned, and, yes, hungry here in the US. If we took all that war money, and all the "aid" we have shoveled all over the world, we might could make a difference in the lives of our own poor.

Better question would be, how much birth control could be bought for the African, Cambodian and Indian nations, as for some reason they insist on having more kids even though they are starving.
I agree, we should end the war, and give these poor countries free vasectomies and tubal ligations and end world hunger!

Bush's and the lock-stepped Republicans' mindless war will end up costing a trillion dollars by the time all is said and done. Probably that would handle all the world's orphans for a long time including the ones he has created in the middle east.
This is what a trillion dollars looks like:
$1,000,000,000,000

How many Christians would have been saved from genocide caused by the people Bush is freeing? Why is he freeing the people that commit genocide? How many Americans could have been fed and had health care? Bush stinks like a rotten fish!
