That might be true. Also, some stores have dummy detectors that don't do anything, which is why some shoplifters will bring their merchandise near the detector to see if it sets off, before they try to steal it.

Keep in mind that even if you get past the detector, many stores also have cameras.

well i dont think the foil will work..however i used to steal all the time and what you have to do first is know were every camra in the building is at then you simply find the blind spots in the store were the camras cant see you, then go put the small items ya want into your cart and go back to one of the blind spots and chuck the stuff into your pockets(using baggy pants or a trench coat is best)then make your way to the bathroom were you can take all items out of the package to get rid of the magnetic bar codes that the scanners detect and throw them and the package into the trash and your home free to leave.always make sure no ones looking before ya chuck anything into your pockets and wile your in the bathroom make sure that no ones in there before opening any packages and hide in a stall incase someone comes in.open all packages in the stall..if someone comes in just pretend to be taking a dump till ya hear them leave before ya finish opening anything.double check that bar codes not are on the inside of things after removing the package or youll get busted.thats about it.

That might work assuming the store has an old system. If they instead have RFD tags that could double as a shoplifter deterrent and would not be affected.
