Depends what you mean by "end".

In about 4 or 5 billion years, the Andromeda galaxy and our own Milky Way galaxy will "collide". Distances between stars are so great that actual stars hitting each other will be very rare. However, the gas clouds in the disc of each galaxy sill "hit" each other (forming shock waves running through the clouds: burst of star formation) and the black holes will merge.

Tidal effects will eject some stars (along with their planetary systems) from their galaxies, while others will be diverted towards the black hole(s). If a star falls into a black hole, that's not good for the planets around it...

It is way too early to even try a guess as to which stars could be affected.

About 5 billion years from now, our Sun will run out of hydrogen to fuse in the core (it run out of its main fuel). However, before becoming a white dwarf, the Sun will swell into a red giant. It will be so big that its surface may reach as far out as our present orbit (maybe even a big further). Meanwhile, our orbit may have moved out a tiny bit (the Sun loses energy as it produces energy; E = mc^2).
If Earth finds itself orbiting inside the Sun: not very good. Not only will we need SPF one-million sun tan lotion, but Earth may be slowed down by the gas inside the Sun, and spiral to the Sun's centre (also not good).

No, the Mayans did not predict that the world will end. They only predicted that the present Long Count of their calendar will end on Dec. 21, 2012. The next day will be the first day of the new Long Count.

It is their equivalent of our December 31, 1999 (remember Y2k? That is when all our computers blew up and we all died).

According to the Mayans, It will end in 5 years, 2012. also, that year adds up to 23 20+1+2 and 32 20+12 and 2+0=2 1+2=3 23 and all the digits add up to 5, which is closely related to 23 because it's digits add up to 5. Five is the first prime number to be a sum of two prime numbers, 2 and 3. But just to warn you, DO NOT get into research on the number 23. It is ruining my life.

i don't know about the WORLD because the world is the Universe. But the EARTH will end in 5 billion years because the helium and hydrogen in the Sun will run out and come very close to the Earth and evaporate all the water and the Earth will ONCE AGAIN become a molt on Planet with no life.

Not counting the asteroid strike in 2014 that destroys half the world's population and turns the other half into marauding cannibals that live off the refuse and dregs of the remains of society; then the world will end in about 5 million years when our sun turns blue and enlarges to engulf the orbit of Mercury at which point the Earth will burn into a cinder and circle the Sun till there's nothing left.

god i hate idiotic answers. there is no meteor strike in 2014. the Mayan calendar long count ends on 2012, not the end of the world. just the start of a new cycle that doesn't affect daily life. its just like were going to have to change our calendar sometime in 4000.

and in 5 billion years any water based life on earth will end because the sun will expand and roast it.

but after 5 billion years the earth will still be here, hotter, lifeless, and waterless. but the actual earth will still be here. until the whole universe ends, either in the big crunch, big rip, big freeze, or heat death, it will be here until the end.

It could end tomorrow, it could end in 3 months, could be in 10 years.
That part no one knows.
But astronomers calculate that the the sun will expand into a red giant and scorch the Earth (and all life on it) in between 3 and 4 billion years. The Earth itself will still exist, but as a burnt and sterile rock in space (not unlike Mercury today).

Matter can not be created nor destroyed...
The Earth shall exist until the end of the universe.
On the other hand, The universe is constantly renewing.
The Earth will be constantly renewed, so the Earth about which you asked is already gone, replaced by this moment.
The Gripping Hand is that only your good works will exist until the end of the Earth, much outlasting your body.
Do works which history will regard as good and you will last until after the Earth is gone.

Just subtract 2007 from the year that the world ends. Simple math.

No one knows. Since the Earth has been around for over four billion years now, there's not much reason to expect it to end anytime soon. I wouldn't waste any time worrying about it.

About 5,000,000,000 years from now, the Sun will exhaust its helium-rich core and balloon into a red giant stage. Apart from possible catastrophic, individual occurrences, this would be the end.
