I cannot believe that parents would name their kids ridiculous names (such as 4real) that I just read about in an article. I mean, do parents even care that they're child must live with that name forever! It's like they have no respect for they're childs social and emotional well-being. My sister and I have names that aren't very common, but they aren't bizzare! ( My name is Hinata, Hina for short, and My sisters name is Ayame, pronounced A-ya-may, Aya for short, both are Japanese names which suit us since we're part Japanese ) But really, names these days! What do you think on this crazy name topic?

People are so concerned with naming unusual and unique names.... They think they are so cute, but they aren't. If you have to use [ ] and tell them how to pronounce it, you are being ridiculous.

I had my name changed at 18 after many years of teasing..... Parents say its their kid they can name them whatever they like..... yeah thats true but they are not the one that will suffer the child will......

What many think is cute now... in 5 yrs, 10 yrs, 20 yrs IT wont be cute it will be embarrassing.....I think it should be a law that children can change their name 1 time free of charge . Its their name..... So think before you pin a god aweful name on a child.

I'm sick of hearing the same names over and over again.... I have to admit I wasn't crazy about Gwyneth Paltrow's choice of Apple, but it's better than Emma or Ava...

I have a name list, and not one of the names has been on the top 1000 baby names in the last 15-20 years. Everyone has heard the names, and they're spelled normally, but I can't stand the thought of my kid having to hear his/her own name all the time.

My name is Carson, and while I never hated it as a child, I love it as an adult. Everyone else my age is named Jennifer, Danielle or Stephany..... thank god my mother had imagination and didn't follow the trends, which is where I get it, I guess.

Yes, as a teacher, I hear some pretty odd names. I guess some parents think it's cute at the time. But in the end, most of those oddly named folks change their names anyway. Personally, when I want o pick a baby name, I research it to find the origin and meaning. There are great names out there, but not all are of good origin or meaning.

I worked with a lady once that said her friend in high school was named Crystal Chanda Lier. Oh well. What do you do....

While I agree that some names get weird...almost abusive (like ESPN, X-Stacey), there are many "outside the box" names that are suggested on these boards, and many people very rudely shoot them down. I have a unique name (and spelling). I did not get teased. I'm sorry if it inconvenienced a teacher, but last I checked most parents don't sit around and ponder "how might this name effect my babies future teachers?" Many teachers tend to be traditional and "by the rules". If your going to be working with children, you should learn that each child is unique. Perhaps if every child put in your class had a unique name, maybe that could serve as a reminder to you to honor the uniqueness of that child. Again....I am not saying it's okay to name your kid Jigsaw or Putt-Putt.....but if someone likes a unisex name for their daughter.....chill the !&#*! out and learn to be more open-minded and accepting of people who don't like to stay in a comfortable box.

i read the article about the couples who wanted to name there kid 4real too. i think it just that parents just don't understand the childhood turmoil there children will end up going through because if the crazy oddball name they received. i agree with naming your child with there heritage. (like you and your sister) and if you don't know your heritage, the go with the norm. (IE: Jim, Tom, Bill / Mary, Sue, Kim)

believe me i know what a kid can go through having a odd name, my parents named me Bambi.

and i have a niece named Mercedes, OMG, why would you name your kid after a car.

any way those are my thoughts on the subject.

Oh yeah...I'm a believer..the names are crazy.

I'm a teacher and hear the craziest names. Then there are those parents that think they must be cute. In one class I have 3 girls named Jessica., 2 named Brittany, and 3 boys named Tom...

The problem is how the parents spell these names. Brittany, Brittney. Brittnee, multiple spellings of Kayleigh, Khahley, etc... Jesika, Jessica, Uggghhhh......

Then the kids get mad when you spell Kaitie, Katy, or Kadie...

These are some of the wierdest celebs baby names
Moon Unit (Frank and Gail Zappa)

Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin)
Daisy Boo (Julia and Jamie Oliver)
Rumer (Demi Moore and Bruce Willis)
Peaches (Paula Yates and Bob Geldof)
River (Arlyn and John Phoenix)
Rocco (Madonna and Guy Ritchie)
Nell Marmalade (Helen Baxendale and David Eliot)
Tiger Lily Heavenly Hirani (Paula Yates and Michael Hutchence)
Dweezil (Frank/Gail Zappa)

Hina, you're not going to believe this but there's a girl by the name of ''Cobra'' who lives in my neighborhood. Yes, that sure is her real name. I also have another one for you, I know someone who named their Son, ''OurSon'' (I'm not kidding). This one really takes the cake. hehe
Oh, one last one I promise! lol There was a couple who named their little girl ''X-Stacy'', I am not kidding! I feel so bad for that innocent child, I could just imagine all the horrible teasing she's going to endure. Anyway Hina, I know exactly what you're saying. : )

My point exactly, Some person was asking about the name Aliouiseous, the other day (pronounced Allo- icious) Is that just the most awful name, imagine the poor child having to learn to spell it.I have been looking at some of the suggestions, and they are abyssmal, imagine calling a little girl Candida? isn't that another name for vaginal thrush? and perhaps she has a sister called Chlamydia? and then there are the awful " council estate" names like Kyle, Ryan, Shannon, and Jade, but the worst one I heard was a little girl being called URSULA, Poor little thing was only about 3, I thought it was pretty cruel, and her little sister was Esme, which isn't much better, but then I heard what they called the little boy of about 5, THADIUS, The parents should be ashamed of themselves.
