Copper powder lab?!?
We heated purified copper powder in a crucible over a hot plate (while continuosly stirring) the result, the powder turned black.

What can be the purpose of this experiment? Is this correct: To determine whether there is a chemical reaction when Copper powder is heated?

First you have to determine whether there was a chemical change and if so what it was. If the copper was pure, nothing was driven off by the heating. (reasonable?) Since there was a change of color it is certainly a reasonable inference that a change took place, but what?

You might want to try repeating the experiment with some changes. For example, try heating the copper powder in a closed glass tube which has been flushed with dry nitrogen or CO2. You will probably not see the same change.
