Technically the depositor is supposed to sign/endorse checks for deposit into their account. However, banks are not very strict about that policy when it comes to deposits--parents, friends, boyfriends, and spouses often deposit money for others and simply endorse the check themselves. Technically this is a forgery, but banks don't even look at the endorsement on checks for deposits, much less check it for verification. There's no reason to verify the endorsement--it doesn't matter who is depositing the check as long as check is written out to the person whose name is on the account. No one would ever be prosecuted for "forging" an endorsement even if somehow the bank did find out the check was signed by someone other than the account holder. No since no one gains or is victimized by such a "crime."
