I am a high school senior and am in the process of looking for/applying to college. I know that my heart lies in acting, but unfortunately it has taken me a while to figure that out. I don't want to do anything else with my life and would love to go to a college for drama. I have only been involved in eight or so productions and none were on a large scale. What are my chances of getting into a drama school when I am competing against people who have been acting their whole lives??

something you should have done as a junior. Sounds like you have been acting your whole life. 8 shows. Well, that depends. If you are going for one of the few colleges that can really help you, you had better be really good, have great grades and a lot of money. The rest of the colleges just want enrollment. A bigger question for me is what are your chances of getting a job because you went to college? The answer is, with very few exceptions, zilch. Professional people do not care if you went to college or auto school, they care first if you look the part and second if you can act the part. Third, they might like to see you had a little experience, and fourth, they might like to see you had some professional (not college) training. That's the truth. The next truth is that even though it would be better for you not to go to college if you want to be an actor, mom and dad are going to want you to go to college "to have something to fall back on" but they have it backwards. You can always go to college, but right now is when you have the drive to act. If you have something to fall backon, that is what you will do and pfft no actor. I mentor aspiring actors for free so if you got questions, I got anwers at my aol address in my profile. give it a look see.

Reputable college drama programs could care less about your acting resume...it's merely a professional formality that they require a 'headshot and resume' when applying...be proud and honest w/ the work you've done...It's your audition that matters. And all they're looking for is a raw talent. The less polished the better, because remember these programs are in the business of "training" actors....

You're all good..follow you're heart, and apply to several programs...good programs...

I gotta lot more to say, but I've spoken enough...

best of luck...

Do not defeat yourself.
You work, prepare yourself for your audition and you go in absolutely determined to get into a program.

There are people who have been acting all of their lives, but it does not mean they are good.

Everyone has watched American Idol at least once and the person, who said, emphatically, that they grew up singing, were a coloratura sounded like a drowning cat on extacy.

So go in and knock 'em dead!
