Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said if he isn’t elected president, the population of African-American males is likely to either wind up in prison or dead.

Do any of you doubt that if any Republican had said the same thing that the libs, the NAACP, Sharpton, and Jackson would already be barking at his front door demanding his/her head?

Of course he's a racist. Jesse Jackson says all whites are racist, and he's a Reverend, and would never lie about a thing like that.

** Double standard? Damn right there's a double standard. Trent Lott got savaged for trying to speak kindly about Strom Thurmond, indicating that his "policies" (without actually specifying WHAT they were) would have been better than what we've seen. Since Thurmond was viewed by some as a racist, first, last, and always, (ignoring his positions on states' rights and limited federal government entirely, which were more likely to have been what Lott referred to), Lott was immediately branded as a demon.

So, Lott goes down for racism when he was definitely not clearly talking about race, and no one questions Jesse Jackson for calling NYC "Hymietown." No one questions Charlie Rangel for shooting a black teenager who trespassed on his property to use the swimming pool. No one cares if rappers say "Nappy headed Ho", but they want Don Imus buried in the Nevada Desert somewhere.

And god help the security guard that doesn't give blue-haired grandma a full cavity search before they look at the group of arab looking people who are speaking in some language he doesn't understand.

How about the double standard of colleges, that are required to craft their admissions to meet a certain percentage of minorities? If the objective is equal opportunity, why does this not apply to sports teams? What about gender equality, should we do away with all gender specificity for sports teams? Or would equality in that area perhaps have an undesired effect on women's sports?

Everybody needs to just admit the fact that nobody really wants equality. Everybody wants whatever category they themselves fall into to have a preference.

Including you.

I agree with "open4one"...According to Jesse Jackson all whites are racist so Edwards must be one.

Actually, I don't know what John Edwards is.

no he's not and yes I doubt it. The only double standard is the one inside the conservatives mind.
