Back when Teddy Roosevelt was president, he was a traveller and a great outdoorsman. He saw great open spaces that needed to be preserved from developement. I believe Yellowstone was the first designated national park. The national parks are a way to save our resourses, open land, wild life, and waterways from developement and for the enjoyment of all people.

America led the way with this idea, I'm happy to say. The idea is to take our best places and preserve them in their natural state forever. The idea goes back about 100 years, so that future generations can see these places more or less the same way we do.
