It doesn't work, that is the bottom line.
Where I live as an ex pat from the USA is they have a minimum wage system set up that is based on regional costs of living rather then a one size fits all communist philosophy system the USA has. Currently, not all area's are covered under their minimum wage system, but as time goes forward, more and more are being brought into that system.
Minimum wage, is of course there to guarantee that a person has at least a bare subsistence wage. In a place like a small town in Mississippi it may work, but in a place like San Francisco, it is impossible. Albeit, no one works for minimum wage in SF, nevertheless, there are millions in the USA who are and have less then a bare subsistence wage.
The country I live in now is China
Peace

it's a socialist policy adopted by numerous countries that forces businesses to pay employees at least a certain amount of money per hour. when the minimum wage gets raised, inevitably some low wage earners will get laid off in cost saving maneuvers, but the ones who get to keep their job will make slightly more. it's a trade off. very few people work for minimum wage, however, meaning much more is made of the issue than it deserves. minimum wage jobs are stepping stone jobs for those entering the workforce for the first time, i.e. teenagers.

Minimum wage is what should drive all young people to continue their education and improve themselves! Because earning minimum wage as an adult is dead-end.

An idiotic regulation stating that the government should be able to tell private business owners how much they must pay employees. It would seem if they were not paying people enough money, then they would either have to pay them more money or lose employees and go out of business.
