If I wanted to be a writer or a poet someday, where would I start? I don't know where to begin.

To be a poet, you need to read a lot of poetry. See what it is, and what makes it poetry. Read the masters, not just YA poets. Some are good, some are not, and some of the answers you'll get are simply to make 2 points, or even 10. Try writing, and always read aloud, it sounds different that way, and easier to hear what doesn't work so well. That's a start. From there it gets harder until you suddenly find out it's easy and you don't know when or how it got that way.

First, get an idea. Write that idea. Then do some research in publishing.
