These are all good answers. I like "Peter Gunn" the best, because it is so different. "The Pink Panther" theme is cliche but wonderful! Mancini is the master. Also the Mike Hammer theme is "Harlem Nocturne" and is out in many versions. I like the one used on the TV show the best. Also, the old "Dragnet" TV show theme is cliche but very good.

Check Amazon.com for various compendiums on the 'best' of the old PI shows. I have a few of the discs myself. Of course, the 'grand daddies' of them all are the M Squad and Peter Gunn CDs, both after the TV shows. Great sixties 'feel'. Yeah, M Squad is not a PI show...but, it has that 'feel' of the streets. Also, Nick at Nite has a few discs for PIs...I believe it is called 'Crimestoppers: PI'. This CD has a lot of the big PI shows from the 60 and 70s.

Of course, you can't beat Mike Post. He has several CDs out over the years on his 'hits' including the A Team, The Rockford Files, and Renegade. Go to the www.epguides.com website and check out their section on TV music. Lots of great selections and links to where they may be purchased. TTFN
