If someone gets wet on the holodeck, then leaves the room, do they stay wet?

They shouldn't as holodeck matter shouldn't exist out side the holodeck. HOWEVER... in a number of Next Generation episodes it has, most noticably the pilot episode Encounter at Farpoint where Wesley Crusher is plucked out of a stream and is dripping wet when he meets Captain Picard. A similar thing happens when the young Mr Crusher and a friend hit Cptain Picard with a snowball.

They shouldn't really cos there are no holo transmitters in the corridors. This was shown in the episode The Big Goodbye when the gangster Cyrus Redblock left the holodeck and disintegrated. However a major gaffe occurred in episode Angel One (2 episodes later) when Wesley Crusher was playing in the snow on the holodeck and the doors opened. Captain Picard and Worf both contracted a highly contagious virus from being hit by a snowball. In other words they both caught a cold! lol:-D

I thought the holograms were basically photons confined by forcefields, giving the impression that they are actually real, but cannot venture too far away from a holo-emitter, therefore could only leave the holodeck if there were more holo-emitters outside.

Or of course, with a doctor-style mobile emitter.

Therefore, you leave - the water doesn't.

EDIT: Plus I guess the snowball incident might not have been so unrealistic. If the door was open, the holo-emitters *might* have been able to create a holgram 'within a line of sight'. Though its just a guess.

((((hugs))))

May peace go with you throughout your life

No!
There is a bit of confusion about the Holodeck.
In the start of the series it was described as the traditional view of Holograms, ie. light particles.
But further on into the series this changed to matter created from energy, but only within the confines of the Holodeck.

I always figured the enterprise's holodeck was equiped with an automatic replicator that kicked into action when food or drinks were involved. that way when people drink or eat on the holodeck it stays with them. I figured it was the same when people came into contact with water a replicator made it real when it touched them.

I feel I should tell you that a hologram is not a true event but in fact a visual impression, therefore no, you would not still be wet as you were never wet in the first place, thus it being a hologram.
