and she was saying words like fu$%. I know, mind my own business but this surprised me. She's a great kid but now I know she has a nasty mouth in her emails.

"Like a sailor"... must have been some nasty stuff.
As of now, most 13 year olds (and even below) are cussing, however it's wrong for every other word to be a curse word, which ive seen sme people do in my school. By the way, tell her that cursing doesn't make her more mature, it actually draws away boys, who finds cussing attractive?!

(Forget that last sentance if you don't let your kid date)

Writing the words isnt the same as saying them, But if it bothers you then simply ask her to not to email you with bad words in them. I dont know what the email said, but if she was up set then I wouldnt say anything at all about the bad words, it will probably just make her even more mad and not want to talk to you because she thinks that your not listening to what she is trying to get accross to you. If she was just being a "punk" about it, meaning that she wasnt saying the words out of anger but just to be "cool", then sraight up tell her to talk like a lady in her emails to you. I dont think punishment is the right thing.

Well I disagree about you not being in her business you are the parent and she is the CHILD..a teenage child at that who has the propensity to be having sex doing drugs or anything you need to be checking more than her emails...to many parents don't snoop enough and thats why you have school shootings and such....don't confront her about her cursing unless you hear cause...it would be counter productive if she knows your snooping she will go through extra lenghts to hide things from you

All kids talk like this, its nothing new. As long as it is just with her friends not with adults or around people that should not hear those types of things come out of her mouth then it is fine. She needs to know that there is a right and wrong time to use such language.

You should punish yourself for invading her privacy. She's a good kid, you said it yourself. You can't control how she talks around her friends, and if she isn't in constant trouble at school or with the law , then it really shouldn't be an issue. If she doesn't speak to you , or other adults that way, then it should be of no concern. You want her to respect you , which means you must also show her respect.

I dont think so because the really problem here is you were going threw her emails. and thats supposted to be a private thing. Expecially at 13, I think shes old enough to have her own email without you going in it.

okay, well im 13 years old too and i know that most girls don't curse. and when they do their moms usually get really upset. so when your daughter cuses alot on the computer you should probably ground her for maybe a couple days and then tell her not to, but naturally shes going to cuss but if she does it once in a while then dont get too angry theres nothing really bad with curse words. Also its not a good idea to go through her mail, it's probably one of the places she thinks she can have privacy.

First of all it is a felony to read someone ELSE'S email, Second no don't punish her, my friend Mac (14) dad punishes him for cursing and he does it so much behind his back it's not funny, it's disgusting. Not aloud to curse at the right moment will make every other word she says f*ck this, f*ck that etc to her friends.

I always think swearing is just a way of expressing emotion, but there is a certain extent to that. As long as she doesn't actually say it alot I think it's okay, but I think it's probably just a phase, but have a chat with her and say swearing is rude.

Really all kids curse when they're parents aren't around. Its just like a thing but don't punish her.
