No it doesn't matter... actually I recommend hospital-based programs - they are much cheaper. The important thing is that the school is accredited. Having a degree doesn't make you a better tech.

You can find accredited schools here: http://arrt.org/index.html?content=http://www.arrt.org/nd/listOfSchools.ndm/listSchools&iframe=yes

P.S. X-ray technician is considered a derogatory term - the correct term is radiologic technologist.

I also attended a hospital based program in Northern California. I think my education was better than the college based programs. In order to enter the program, I needed prerequisite college courses, like anatomy, medical terminology, biology, computers. I took those at my local community college, before I knew what career I wanted to pursue. The hospital based radiologic technology program was far more intense than the college based programs. We didn't get spring break, winter break, time off for Thanksgiving etc. We were in school, either in a classroom setting or a clinical setting, 40 hours a week, for the full two years. It was a less expensive education. Upon graduation and registry licensing, no employer cares where you got your education. They just want to see your licenses. You do not get paid more for your AS or bachelors degree. You will get paid more with each sub-specialty. You can get licensed in fluoroscopy, CT scanning or mammography, for example.

I'm not aware of any universities that offer x-ray technician programs, but if I were you, I'd take the college program. Your tuition would cost less at college, the program might be only 2 years, and either way there will be work for you.

While university looks good on paper, it costs a lot more and could take longer to complete.

Whatever you decide on, I hope you do well.

you would get the same education at a CC since thats a degree you can get at any trade school... if you go to a Uni you will just be wasting money
