look at it as 6a + 1a=7a. a can be any letter. If it said 6x+x=7x. If you want to test it, put in some number for a to convince yourself that it really is true. 6 times 2 + 2=14 or 7 x 2=14. Yes! HOpe this helps.

7a because you just add it because 6a has an a after it which means it can be added by anything with an 'a' behind it like 5a, 6a, 10a, 8a, a and etc.

just simplify...the only thing to do is add like terms so the answer would be 7a
