Basically what you need to do is just go to your local junkyard and get another housing. Shouldn't be hard at all to install because you just loosen some nuts/screws, you could do it yourself in no time.

That depends upon the car. Generally, you can get a replacement housing from a local salvage-yard (junk yard) for less than a dealer. Matching trim on the housing could be tough. Older vehicles are easy, usually a few screws holding the housing to the body, accessible from the exterior of the car. Newer vehicles may have any retaining screws or other retaining mechanisms on the inside of the vehicle.

If you plan to do any self maintenance, then pick up a "Chilton's or a Haynes" manual on your particular vehicle, available at any local auto parts store. These will help for many routine and some major repair work.

As long as there is no frame damage so you can't get the new lens housing in place it's just a matter of 4 to 6 mounting screws and 2 or 4 plugs for the bulbs.

Ask him if you're not sure, or does he bit?

As long as nothing is bent, a new lens and bulb will be nothing for your mechanic to change.

It's pretty easy i used to do it at a garage as long as you have the right screwdrivers. I'm sure your neighbour wouldn't mind doing it.
