I wanted to dress everyone up in white button-down shirts and blue jeans, but what about the baby? I'm sorry for being so complicated; I just want our first family photo to be awesome! The trendy fall color palette is absolutely gorgeous; I LOVE the deep turquoise.. Any color would do really;) And should the hubby wear a long sleeved or short-sleeved (button-down) [or not] shirt..Confusing, I know;) LoL

We all wore black with a white background. They turned out gorgeous.

Your original idea is great. White shirts and denim (make sure they are all similar fades) is classic. That way when the baby is an adult he/she can look back and see YOU not the clothes you are wearing. The simplicity puts the focus on the family and not the fashion. I would dress the baby in the same thing as the rest of you. Scores of stores offer awesome denim for babes (I saved my favorite denim for each stage in my daughter's infant and toddler years..so cute!).
You could accent with a color, but I dont think its necessary, and as far as the fall theme goes...no one is going to know the picture was taken in fall 15 years from now, so it might be better to stay away from falling leaves etc....
BTW-dont put your baby in the outfit until RIGHT before the photo-shoot. I made that mistake the first time and my daughter ended up wearing back up clothes fro the diaper bag :(
CHEESE :)

I would stray away from fall colors unless you are going to take another photo in the spring. The shirt is the only part that matters, as it will probably be the only part you see in the picture... If the family is going to wear dark fall colors make sure your husband has long sleeves and the girl could have a mid tone dress.

Looking at my family portrait.

Mom/Dad wearing dark sweaters. Two daughters (~18 mos and 3) both wearing pink sweat shirts with dark turtlenecks. Everyone wearing dark pants. Taken on a beach.

Classic t-shirt and jeans. Or maybe you could have 2 outfits. One casual and another a little more dressy.

I know this might not help very much but you should choose something that not only looks nice but also means something for your family like what you and your hubby wore on your first date or whatever

It probably kinda sucks but that's what Id do =]

"trendy fall color palette"

Wear colors that COMPLIMENT each other, but whatever you do - don't MATCH! Ugh, thats just so cutesy pukey.

You should stick to pale golds, burgany, and lavish oranges colors!

Good Luck!
