"Clarence will try and minimise the impact of the huge media interest in Madeleine’s disappearance on us, as we try and return slowly towards as normal a life as is possible. Although we will NEVER give up on Madeleine"
Isn't asking for minimised publicity, in a way, giving up on Madeleine??
How many parents on Yahoo tonight would even consider "as normal a life as is possible" a possibility if you did not know where your child was? Would you want your normal life back? or would you want to keep your missing daughters profile as high as possible and for as long as possible?

Honestly Grumples this is a tough question. My friend lost her teen daughter last year to a fatal car accident and while life will never be the same for them after a couple of months of not getting out of bed she realized she needed to get her self together for her other children and go on with her life and make it as normal as possible for them. It has been almost a year and she is doing ok. There are moments that are harder then others. I would like to think I could make life as normal as possible for my children if something happened to one of their siblings. I know they count on me alot to get them through each day. I would not give up on my child if they were missing until proof came they were not alive. I would make sure the police stayed on the case and if I had the money I would hire PI's for as long as possible.

I don't think so,do you? I recently watched a tv prog about a girl and her mum -the girl was snatched as a new born baby and reunited 2 weeks later(Alex....?) She wasn't even allowed to go on school trips - mum was too scared. She always asked her nan if she could go out!! Kate and Gerry will be the same whether it be with 2 or 3 children

I'm sure they want everyone to look at Madeleine's picture, Madeleine's face, not theirs. Theyhave two other children to consider, too.
I think I have seen many examples of bad taste on this site, but Tosser's jokes are a new low.

I dunno... But there's a good chance they don't know where their daughter is. They're not talking about minimising publicity per se, they're talking about being left alone by the idiot press who hound them 24/7. How does it help having Kate McCann's face slapped over every newspapaer page. She ain't missing. The press wouldn't let her.
Just because they've asked the press to leave them alone, it doesn't mean they want the manhunt to stop.

If I were the mother of a child that I had neglected and left alone whislt I went out drinking and eating with my posh mates and that child ad subsequently gone missing then I could never ever ever conteplate a 'normal life' ever again. Then I am what the Mcanns would call working class and obvioulsy the 'Upper classes' like the Mcanns can - I wonder why.

Did they ever stop having a normal life? While they were in Portugal they never stopped going to the beach or playing golf. They said it was for the best of their other children but, come on!! I'm a mother and if anything ever happened to my boy, I would go insane. How is it possible to have such cold blood??? Normal life without knowing if poor Maddie is alive and safe? They may not be guilty, but I don't think they ever acted the right way from the start.

You can't understand their behaviour unless you are them or are in the same situation. Unless you've been in their shoes i think it's wrong to try and analyse the things they've done. There's not a right or wrong way to behave, if reducing the publicity helps make life easier for their other children then maybe it's a sacrifice worth making. One thing to remember about life is that it goes on no matter what - their lives can't stop because Madeleine is missing, they may not enjoy life or be happy but they still have to carry on...x

Hmmm, I don't think they can win. When they do make her disappearance 'high profile' they are criticised and now they are being criticised for trying to minimise the media interest.
I expect that they wish to minimise the media interest because the interest is seemingly on them and not on their daughter at all, hence all the BS written about them on a daily basis, usually all fabricated.
I think people should let them move on and try to get back to living a normal life, if only for their other children who have been caught up in all of this.

I would not be able to rest until I knew where my daughter was, life would never ever be normal again for me. I would be pacing the streets all day and night if I even lost my dog.

Methinks you tend to disregard the last 3 words of that statement...AS IS POSSIBLE.
That cleary implies that life without their Madeleine will not normal....
