I don't want a text book answer. I want an answer from people who have been in labor before. Do real contractions always have to start from the back and go to the front or can they just be in the front lower area? If so, what lower area are they most prominent in (near the pelvic bone, above it, ect?) Please help. Do real contractions always have to be incredibly painful? I've been having a sore lower back and feeling a very intense tightening sensation near the pelvic bone region plus a little bit of pain down there. Please help me. Thank you in advance. My due date is the 29th btw.

No way, everyone is different. I felt mine in the lower part of my abdomen, and sometimes earlier contractions aren't painful. Mine never went to my back, it was in the same area that you would feel menstrual cramps but 100 times worse than you could imagine. However, some people just have a high tolerance for pain, you could have the same strength contraction as any other woman and on a scale 1-10 she could say 10, and you would think it was a 3. Depends on how much pain you can tolerate. The back pain is just the pressure from the baby dropping, that's normal, but what you are describing sound like contractions. Braxton-Hicks contractions aren't normally painful, but if you feel any pain at all they could be. Try walking to see if they increase. Good luck, and congratulations!!!

Congratulations! Contractions normally start down low near the back. It can be different from some people and to help them tighten your vaginal muscles for about 5 min. It can be near the pelvic and it's normal to feel a lot of pain down there but most contractions hurt worse than having a the baby! just a suggestion but having water births causes less pain and is better for the baby because it's like being in the womb and is becoming very fashionable to have a water birth. You should look into it! Good luck! And Congratulations again! Is it a girl or boy?

Congratulations!

If you are having a lot of back pain your baby might be posterior. That just means your baby is face forward. To help relive that pain get on your hands and knees, or knees and lean over a birth ball. Labor contractions do not have to be, and are not always "incredibly painful" In fact they really shouldn't be. Contractions don't have to start in your back. They should be up front. Like I said before if you are feeling them in your back try hands and knees and have your partner/husband apply pressure over your tail bone and back of your pelvis. You may be having braxton hicks, or the early stages of labor. All contractions are real, but the ones that work are the ones that are all over tightness and help to open your cervix, and they are strong and close together. Strong meaning you can't talk through them. Well good luck to you hoped this was helpful to you.

My contractions were all in the front, no back conctractions. They started out as uncomfortable but as the day progress, they got stronger and longer.. They became VERY painful for me, and that I started thinking about getting ready to go to the hospital. They felt like SEVERE menstrual cramp that could not be relieve no matter what I did. My conctractions were lower on my stomach towards the pelvic area, but once they started getting stronger I'm not sure where they were coming from lol.. Good luck!

Mother of four and LPN I had labor pains four different ways I think including dull aches in my lower back only and intense pain in front near my pelvic bone (kinda like being kicked in the bladder). Here is a test to see if they are real or false: walk around, if they go away after walking they are false, if they intensify after walking they are real. Good luck!

Well, Congrats! Not long, either way.
I cannot draw from personal experience, but no, real contractions do not have to be "incredibly" painful. I've known the occasional lucky girl who's entire labor experience could only be described as "uncomfortable"
that's less likely, most ppl have painful ones, but if you water broke, or you think you should go to the hospital, don't wait for unbelievable pain.

Every woman has different experiences. Yours sounds a lot like labor to me. If it comes in waves, start keeping track of how often they come and go. If they are 5 mins apart, go one down to the hospital to check. Don't worry, if you're not in labor you're so close they won't look at you funny for getting it checked.

Mine started out real faint. I just slowly started not feeling very well, kind of like a faint onset of menstrual cramps. It was actually my husband who was watching me who first asked if I was in labor. I wanted to wait, but when I sat around and paid attention I noticed they were about 5 mins apart. So, we decided to go to the hospital just in case.

By the time I got there they agreed I was in full-on labor, and my water had already broken but I hadn't known. The contractions did not start getting really painful for another four or five hours. So, it can come on light at first.

Go in! Good luck, and I wish you joy!

I keep in mind them very similar to essentially the most awful diarrhea cramps I had ever skilled besides means worse. Imagine over dosing on ex-lax and that's a moderate variation of work cramps. Take a extreme interval and multiply that through uhhhhhh.... say one hundred,000? Yeah! That perhaps correct. Though within the very, very starting, earlier than cramping even started I comfortably felt humorous, like probably I had a moderate flu approaching. I simply felt fairly quiet and prefer I desired to head lay down and relaxation. I felt a moderate sit back to me and desired to simply positioned a few jammies on and cuddle with a tremendous pillow. When I advised my mother that she mentioned, "Uh oh!" She knew earlier than I did that it used to be comfortably a question of hours from that factor. :)
