There is an excellent chance that there is alien life among the mind-boggling number of stars out there; however, even the closest of these stars is a LONG way away, and they do not know we are here.

Considering the fact that there are billions of galaxies out there I would say the probability of intelligent life would be pretty high. If there is life out there that is highly intelligent there are still many factors as to why they have not contacted us.
1. Even with their superior intellect they may not have figured out a way to travel vast distances in their life time.
2. If they have the ability to travel through vast distances in a short period of time they may not know we are here. To locate us would be extremely difficult. Similar to trying to find a single grain of sand somewhere on all the beaches in the world. To make things more difficult the sand they are looking at may or may not exits from their point of view. Meaning that the light from earth's sun may not have even reached their part of the universe yet while other dead stars may appear to be shinning brightly.

There hasn't been any definitive proof of life currently existing outside of Earth and no intelligent life has so far been discovered ever to have existed, leaving a lot of room for the forming of individual opinions.
There are hundreds of known extrasolar planets (planets that don't orbit the sun) and there are probably millions more. It's possible that Earth is the only planet that currently holds intelligent life, but there's still a lot of planets to check before jumping to that conclusion.
There are many possible reasons why aliens haven't contacted us. The first is that they don't exist, but if we assume that they do, there are two main reasons I can think of.
The first is that they aren't advanced enough to discover or contact Earth. We aren't advanced enough to have discovered aliens yet and it's possible that they aren't advanced enough to find us either.
Even a society more advanced than us might not be able to contact us. The farthest man-made object is the Voyager II spaceship, which will be leaving the sun's gravitational field in the year 2015. The nearest star (other than the sun) is Alpha Centauri, which is 4.1 light years away. I don't know the exact number, but the sun's gravitational field only extends for billions of miles, compared to the trillions contained in a light year. It will be a long time before we're capable of making alien contact.
The other main possibility I can think of, which is less realistic, is that the aliens are extremely advanced and have made contact with us, but don't want us to know. We wouldn't be able to help them in any way and there would be no reason for them to expose their existence to us until we advanced further.

Think of it this way.
Humans are believed to have colonized the Americas about 10,000 years ago. There was no contact again between Native Americans and Europeans until about 600 years ago. Why 9,400 years with no contact?
Humans and extraterrestrials may exist in the same galaxy, yet have not contacted each other. Why?
Same reason.

Aliens,no doubt proliferate throughout the universe.
Time, distance and longevity determines the possibility of contact.
We may,one day get proof of their existence and maybe some of them have received proof of our existence.
Either way they theorize and wonder about us as we do about them.
We may get proof of their existenc but we will never have any dialog with them or ever meet them.

odds are that there is alien life out there somewhere.
as for cantact, if they had the technology to get to earth, we would look like monkeys fiddlin garound in a back water society...if they could get to earth then they would have to make some kind of barrier between them and their boddies because any virus or piece of bacteria could kill them, and thats alot of trouble to go through to talk to some loser cratures who barley fugured out how to get off their planet...and its not like we have that much technology hat they wouldn't have already...only life forms and then they could die from breathing the same oxygen filled air as our organisms do...

There's always the possibility that their civilization is far ahead of ours and that they don't want to talk to "inferior" beings...
