I was a cultural studies major. Specifically, I studies South and Southeast Asian Studies, specializing in Thai literature. I did quite a bit of book translation.

I do NOT recommend majoring in cultural studies unless you are a true academic, or you have a practical major to prop you up.

I was a molecular biology major. Southeast Asian literature was something I studied because I loved it. My humanities studies have not contributed much to my career, but it makes for great conversation. I'm trying to go to med school. I'm practical, as most people are.

The real jobs in cultural studies seem limited to writing and academia. Do you want to put out books and articles? Do you want to be a professor (requires a graduate level education).

So in short, I'd say cultural studies are intellectually fulfilling and enriching subjects. However, double up so you can have an education you can use to pay your bills.
