theres no set number. You have to win your division. If you win your division you make the playoffs. Then theres the wild card. Lets say you don't win your division but you have the best, or second best record in the whole AFC, or NFC (depending on which conference your in) then you make the wild card. There are 8 total teams that make the playoffs. It is possble to make it with a losing record, but its only happened like three times in 80 years or something rediculous like that

I agree with the Kid. It seems to me years
ago I think it was Minn. Vikings was in the
playoffs with a losing record.

The theoretical minimum however would be 3
