Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini wrote the song to fit Audrey Hepburn's vocal range. Originally the lyrics went, "I'm Holly, like I want to be / like Holly on a tree back home...", later they were changed to fit the theme to the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.
