First of all I've found great help in looking at colleges by using the College Board's web site ( http://www.collegeboard.com/splash/ ), they're the group that does the SATs. You can look up just about any college you want to on there.

For the main campus of UM their SATs scores are decent, range of 480-600 average for SAT Critical Reading, range of 490-600 for SAT Math with SAT Writing not reported.

For Dartmouth their SAT scores are much higher. 670-770 on SAT Critical Reading, 680-780 (almost perfect) for SAT Math and again Writing is unreported. You should probably be at least within the 10 top students in your high school graduating class to even consider applying here.

For Princeton their story is exactly the same. Phenominal SAT scores. 680-800 (can't get much better than that) on SAT Critical Reading, 690-790 for SAT Math and 680-770 for SAT Writing with 30-34 on ACTs out of 36. You should probably be in the top 3 students of your class to consider Princeton.

If you want to stay in New England I would also advise Brown University, Boston College, Worchester Polytechnic Institute and others. There's also a lot of good schools in New York like Siena, Iona, Cornell, Ithaca and others.

Princeton is rated the #1 college in the country by US News & World Report. Princeton and Dartmouth are both excellent colleges and in the Ivy League. UMO is much less well known and is a notch or two below the Ivy League in quality or reputation. I don't personally know much about UMO, but I have researched for excellent colleges for my children.

Depending on what you want to do is where you should go. Just because Dartmouth costs the most doesn't make it any better than any other. I went to Post University and it was GREAT. Small campus low student to teacher ratio and so on. Its great that you are thinking about it from now. Best of luck.

UMO is quite low in prestige. But you're only in 8th grade!!!! Why are you aiming low??? Work hard in high school, get involved, and then maybe you can rethink your choice.

wow its a bit early for you to be plannning these things. Its good. But i tihnk you should see how you do in high school then start really planning on which colleges you will want to attend.

Apply to all three and decide which one to go to based on the following:

1) Which one accepts you (of course)
2) Which one has the program of study you want to be in
3) Which one has the best reputation

Good luck!!!
